DAY 1 Transfer Prague – Rozkos Dam
Meeting in Prague (airport or in your hotel) by our vandriver. Transfer to East Bohemia (80 km).Our first hotel is situated on the bank of Rozkos dam, a fascinating birding site. Evening individual birding with target birds: Black Woodpecker, Black Stork, Red Kite, Penduline Tit, Little Bittern, Bluethroat, Red-crested Pochard and many other exciting species.
Dinner is at your own cost. Two overnights in a comfortable family hotel near Rozkos Dam (near Ceska Skalice town).
DAY 2 Orlicke Moutnains
Breakfast included. Our local guide will meet us in our hotel and will join us for whole day trip to Orlicke Mountains. Our birding starts in Orlicke Zahori area – around 700 meters high, with famous meadows surrounded by coniferous forest. Our target birds are: Common Rosefinch, Grey-headed and Black Woodpeckers, Goshawk, Whinchat and Hawfinch.Picnic lunch is included. Afternoon we walk up to a mountain forest (900 – 1100 meters elevation) we will check several occupied nestboxes of Tengmalm´s Owl. Using a record we will try to attract another target bird: Pygmy Owls. We will also visit one of the occupied Black Stork nests. Another targets are Ring Ouzel and Firecrest.
After the dinner (own cost) we will observe catching and ringing of Corn Crakes. Today we come to our hotel rather late, around 10.30-11.00 pm.
DAY 3 Josefov Meadovs, Broumov Rocks
Breakfast included. We enjoy early morning birdwatchning at Rozkos Dam with migrating waders and terns and nesting birds as Penduline Tits. After breakfast we will be transferred to Josefov Meadows, the first Czech Ornithological park. Our target birds here are Kingfisher, Great Grey Shrike, River, Grasshopper and Savi's Warbler, Hoopoe and Red-backed Shrike.Picnic lunch is included. We walk through the whole reserve to a small town of Josefov, where our van will be waiting for us. Optionally, we can visit Josefov historical town and fortress.
In the afternoon we visit famous Broumov Rocks with Eagle Owl and Peregrine Falcon, Black Stork and Raven. Later in the afternoon we will be transferred via fairytale tiny town of Jicin to Estern Bohemia ponds for overnight at nice Old Mill Hotel near fishpond Zrcadlo.
DAY 4 Eastern Bohemia Ponds - cranes nesting site
Area around fishpond Zrcadlo is famous as Common Cranes nesting place. Today we get up early morning, take sandwiches with us go near Crane nesting place to observe these magnificent birds in breeding plumage.Then we take 2 km long easy walk around Zrcadlo fishpond. We will have a chance to observe White-tailed Eagle, Red-crested Pochard, Spotted Crake, Bluethroat, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Red and Black Kite, Honey Buzzard, Golden Oriole, Barred and Icterine Warbler and Collared Flycatcher. We have also opportunity to participate at local research project of ringing of reed singing birds.
Around 10.30 we come back to our hotel for late breakfast, check out and transfer to Prague.
